I’ve had similar experiences on hiking trails. But as a wise 30-something said as he passed me, “At least you’re out here, Dude.”

Two simultaneous thoughts, I'm grumpy about seeing my physical self slowly disintegrate, and at the same time, I'm grateful to the Mountain Gods for being upright, active, and still able to watch my front wheel wobble up to NCAR.

This time of year the route up to NCAR is littered with pieces of lung that folks have spit up. During the summer when folks get good at the route, there are hundreds of bad words uttered by the climbers, just hanging in the air.

A vivid entertaining description of what you inflict on yourself. I am inspired but not enough to undertake your kind of effort. Nice to be doing this and writing about it at your tender young age.

I guess it's not nice to laugh while reading about someone's suffering, but I did! So thanks for that Alan. 😃

Gotta admit that I like riding my bike. That I burn a good number of calories is good too.

Well that explains a lot. When R would leave for a bike ride, I'd say "have fun" He would snap back "I don't do it for fun" clearly he was NOT kidding.... lol..

congratulations on the first 2025 ride...

You are clearly a better man than I. My hat's off to you. I haven't ridden a bike in years. I wish I could say that you inspired me to get back in shape. I didn't go to the gym this morning and that makes seven years in a row.....

Wait. Wait. Wait. Didn’t you ride a unicycle in a parade?

Yep. I gave away my last unicyle on my 77th birthday and bought an electric unicycle. I put my golf bag on my back and I can play 18 holes in under 2 hours.

It’s hard to act my age. Actually harder than acting my age in my 20s and 30s when acting my age often came into question.
